Cross-cultural and refugee counseling

When counseling someone from a culture different from our own, we need to be able to meet the person on their own terms. This means understanding how they interpret their crisis in the context of their culture and values.

Since Western counseling techniques will not necessarily work for people from non-individualist cultures, Ulf Lidman Training provides intensive courses on cross-cultural and refugee counseling. The courses help you adapt to a person’s culture, and help them process their crisis, overcome culture shock, and focus on adjusting to their new life.

Courses can be designed to include the following subjects:

  • Introduction to motivational interviewing
  • Motivational interviewing for leaders
  • Crisis and crisis management
  • Providing support in acute crisis situations
  • Cross-cultural crisis management
  • Managing challenging behaviors
