Crisis Competence for Leaders
This basic course in crisis and crisis management is aimed at managers in organizations and companies who want to grow in the area of leadership when encountering crisis.
The cause of crisis can be professional. Changes in structures and procedures, interpersonal conflicts, company growth or cut backs. Change in the workplace will result in turbulence and frictions.
Employees go through personal crisis that will affect them at work. No individual was born that can completely differentiate between personal and professional. Serious illness, divorce and other relationship issues, death, financial problems, addictions, mental health issues are just examples of challenges that life serves us.
A skilled leader knows how to lead people through crisis. Being a manager does not involve being a therapist. The responsibility of the leader is to guide and provide structures in the workplace in collaboration with the employee to ensure that the individual does not get stuck but moves forward in the crisis processing. Research shows clearly that staying in your job, structures and routines is the best environment for effective crisis processing.
The objectives of this training are to develop the manager’s skills in dealing with individuals in crisis whether the cause is professional or personal. A competent leader sees crisis as an opportunity for growth and improvement.
The term “crisis” covers so many different situations. But what these all have in common is that what was once normal and ingrained crashes – and yet life must still go on. Crises affect everyone and they strike suddenly and indiscriminately. Changes at work or at home are part of life.
The starting point for helping to cope with them is the experience and situation of the person affected. The individual’s needs are prioritized over methods and tools. In order to be able to constructively assist the person in crisis, we must have insight into our own crises. Knowledge on how we have dealt with our own crises enables us to understand how it is to be in a crisis. But we have to be careful to not view others through the lens of our own lives, values and experiences.
Former course participants feel confident in how to lead through crisis. They face both professional and personal crisis head on and know what their responsibilities are and what they aren’t. Instead of letting crisis steal productive energy they now use crisis to improve and make the workplace more progressive and productive.

The course orientation provides an introduction to crisis and crisis management. After the training, the work is both practically process-oriented and theoretical. The objective is for the managers to be able to effectively and professionally lead and guide individuals in crisis after completed training.

- Crisis reactions and practical ways to deal with them.
- The leader’s role. Knowing what to do and what NOT to do.
- An approach that focuses on solutions when dealing with crisis behaviors.
- A focus on the individual and crisis management on the individual’s own terms.
- Network and relationship inventory for both leaders and employees.
- Getting out of the crisis and moving on.
- Crisis equals growth and development.
